Yesterday, my dad took me to a place near to my childhood. Well, near it anyway.
Changi Village, for those of you that aren't familiar with Singapore, is a little "village" near the East Coast of Singapore. Its filled with food stalls, wet markets and expensive restaurants, along with several nearby army camps and prisons, and some beach-side getaways.
I went to Changi Village to eat breakfast with dad. After that, I told him that I wanted to visit a place nearby that I had gone to often as a kid.
This place nearby was an old swimming complex, owned by Singapore's own SIA. It had a gym, bowling alley, arcade, and an olympic sized swimming pool complete with an extra deep end for divers-in-training. I went there since I was a kid to attend swimming lessons. Got my Bronze Medal in Lifesaving skills there. After that, the place closed down and moved away, but I wanted to visit it again and check out what happened to it.
So, long story short, its trashed. My dad pulled up near the entrance to let me get out. Apparently the place is still state-owned, so they won't allow anyone in without permission and probably a hefty fee. The front entrances were all chained and closed up, but I found a small grille gate near the front that let me see in.
The pool was the most drained I had ever seen since....ever. The entire shallow end was dry. Only the deep diver's end had any water in it, and I'm betting that water is murky, dirty and a health hazard to fall into. The rest of the place is in disrepair, bits falling off, paint peeling, bits of the old child pool torn up for who knows what.
I have no idea what the government wants to do with this place, but I still want to head in there and check out what's inside for myself.
